The Dishonest Son and The ‘Ghost’ Doctor Mother – Chapter 69

Nannan’s birthday

Yu Qingluo facepalmed. Nannan, don’t tell me you came here just to crack a joke about the situation?

Ye Xiudu also didn’t expect that the little guy no one had been paying attention to would suddenly collect all his silver in such a manner, taking off his clothes and using them to wrap them inside as improvised bags.

Ahem, this kid’s actions were really unpredictable.

Nannan’s body was all sweaty. He had moved all this silver and felt his entire body hot, so when he took off all those clothes, he felt more comfortable. Anyway, it didn’t matter much if men weren’t wearing many clothes. He had seen those uncles farming in the country with only a pair of trousers and tanned skin on show, paying no mind to what others thought.

Nannan was very proud. All the silver his mother couldn’t take away, he could grab bag by bag.

Yep! Although his clothes were a bit small, he could still buy a lot of delicious food with the amount of silver on his hands and that was enough.

Nannan giggled at Yu Qingluo, bending down to lift the improvised bags from the ground: “Mother, this bag is a bit heavy, you carry it. What I mean to say is, it’s not that Nannan is lazy but just that I’m small and I can’t carry it properly… Ahhhh, Uncle Ye, why are you lifting me up? Didn’t I just take two bags of silver? Didn’t you just say that my Mother could take it all away just now? You can’t just take your words back at random, Uncle Ye. Oh, don’t pinch me, hahahah, so itchy, itchy!”

Ye Xiudu’s complexion had suddenly took a turn, his whole countenance looked terrifying. Colder and more brutal than ever before.

His line of sight was tightly locked on Nannan’s waist, in a spot where there was a pinkish, purplish flower-shaped birthmark that was just shown when he bent over to pick up the bags. The birthmark was beautiful, like a shy rosebud whose petals hadn’t bloomed already.

Yu Qingluo jumped startled, especially when she saw his sullen expression. She unconsciously thought he was going to attack Nannan, so her hands flew over and grabbed him: “Let him go.”

Ye Xiudu stepped aside, avoiding her hands and quickly raised his head to look at her. Asking her word by word: “Why does he have a purple rose birthmark on his body?”

‘Purple rose birthmark’?

Yu Qingluo’s heart trembled. Yes, Nannan did have such a birthmark on his waist. When he was born, this confused her for quite a while and thought that, even though birthmarks were things that most people disliked, this one was quite pretty, not irksome in the least.

And having a birthmark would bring him no affliction, so she didn’t bother trying to remove it.

After growing up, Nannan felt a bit disgusted by it, because he felt that it wasn’t mighty enough for him, so he attempted to rub it off his body several times but was stopped by Grandma Ge.

Yu Qingluo didn’t think that there was anything horrible about such a birthmark, but looking at Ye Xiudu’s reaction just now, it seemed as if it was… unusual.

“Tell me, why does he have a Purple Rose Birthmark on his body?” Ye Xiudu stared closely at Yu Qingluo, his imposing countenance was even fiercer than before. He and Nannan had been together for more than half a month, but the little guy was used to doing his own things by himself. Nannan even avoided being together while bathing and that made him unaware of such a birthmark on his body. Unexpectedly, a big finding emerged.

Shen Ying, Mo Xian and the others were shocked. This was the first time they saw their Lord lose this temper like this, they couldn’t help but act more cautious.

Just what was going on? How could he have such a big reaction? No matter how grave things before were, even when he learned that it was the Madam (his mother) who had hired people to hunt him down, he had never shown such complex expression.

Yu Qingluo raised her eyebrows, a bit uncertain: “The birthmark… what about it?”

“Who is the child’s father?” Ye Xiudu didn’t answer her question.

Yu Qingluo let out a relieved breath. This was the second time that Ye Xiudu asked such a question. What did this mean? It meant that the birthmark on Nannan’s body must be related to his birth father’s identity.

Could it be that Ye Xiudu also had it? But that didn’t make any sense, birthmarks aren’t inherited like that.

(ED Note: some birthmarks are sort of ‘inherited’ but it’s far more complicated than just ‘basic genetics’ as it also involves epigenetics and more embryology than I know. So we won’t really explain this one, sorry guys.) (TL: Lmao, I didn’t know that, but good to know!)

She gritted her teeth to answer: “Dead.”

“Really?” Ye Xiudu coldly smiled. Hugging Nannan, he pulled off his own outer coat to wrap tightly against his body, then raised his eyes to answer: “On the south of the Country of Feng Cang there is an ethnic group who is able to marry their descendants to any of the four countries and is not bond to any of their territories, the Meng ethnic group. The purple rose birthmarks only appear in the offspring of the Meng ethnic group. No, it’s more correct to say that even among the members of the tribe only a selected few are born with these birthmarks.”

Yu Qingluo’s face turned pale. Such uniqueness, was this birthmark actually an inherited trait?

Ye Xiudu stared at her vacant looking eyes and turned around, handing Nannan who was still a bit dizzy and confused to Mo Xian behind him. Afterwards, he approached Yu Qingluo, step by step, and his voice suddenly sounded akin to a messenger from hell.

“It is said that the Meng have been blessed by the heavens and the purple rose birthmark is a gift from the Gods to their people. No one else, besides the Meng, has ever been found to hold such birthmarks in the entire world. And in this courtyard, there are two people with exactly the same birthmark in their bodies.”

At this time, not only Yu Qingluo’s face was white, even Mo Xian and the others, who had been silent all along, turned to stare at Ye Xiudu in shock before turning their eyes to examine Nannan closely.

Shen Ying’s lips even trembled. What… what does the Lord wanted to say?

Two purple rose birthmarks and only the Meng possessed them. Two birthmarks that are exactly the same…

That is impossible! Nannan… could Nannan really be the Lord’s… son?

It can’t be! This was impossible. This kind of outrageous idea must be discarded, thrown away at once!

“Nannan’s father, who the hell is him?” Ye Xiudu had already neared Yu Qingluo, closing their distance to the point that they were separated only by a finger’s length and were able to even feel each other’s breathing.

Yu Qingluo wanted to take a step back, but there was a voice inside of her heart desperately reminding her that she couldn’t retreat. If she did, then it would all be over and all the confidence she had mustered would have been exhausted until the last drop.

Therefore even if Ye Xiudu stuck close to her, nose to nose, her eyes widened with ferocity and she repeated consistently: “I said, he was a ruffian, he is dead.”

“Then you tell me, where is his body buried?”

“It was burned by me.”

“Where did you burn it?”

“Forgot.”

Ye Xiudu pursed his lips and smiled. Turning his head, he looked at Nannan, who was been held in Mo Xian’s arms, asking with a gentle tone: “Nannan, when is your birthday?”

“B-birthday?” Nannan blinked twice, then looked at mother and Uncle Ye, who were standing very close to each other, unable to understand what they were doing.

Yu Qingluo almost shouted unconsciously, answering: “The fourth of april[1].”

“Saying it so, has Nannan birthday passed already then? What a pity, I wanted to say that he could stay a few more days, so we could organize a birthday banquet for him.” Ye Xiudu moved a step aside, blocking Yu Qingluo’s path to Nannan and, with this movement, he also blocked the eye contact she was so desperate to have with him.

As soon as Nannan heard those words he immediately turned over in Mo Xian’s arms: “Uncle Ye, are you serious? Actually, my birthday is on the third day of august, more than a month away! You can arrange it for me, you can do it!”

Translator’s Notes

[1] 三月初四 – Yu Qingluo’s date is according the Chinese calendar. if you just change your google agenda configuration to show in Chinese and check out where these characters show up you can see. It’s April and not March. Nowadays 三月 is translated as march though, so you have to see what sort of setting the novel has and what type of calendar they use. Since she said 初四, then I automatically can say its the Chinese one, otherwise, they would have said 四日/号
