This time it’s over for good!

Yu Qingluo couldn’t help but laugh coldly in her mind. Her eyes became spirited.

Yu Zuolin’s plan was quite marvelous. To actually want her to diagnose Li Ranran’s illness? Haha, but the situation should be quite the opposite, actually. So what if she really dares to go, would he want the Yu Qingluo to see that woman?

She wasn’t sure if at the time they met she might end up accidentaly killing someone or if she would cause them to die a miserable death. Afterall, that experience of 6 years ago cannot be separated from that Li Ranran’s[1] hands.

The fact that she, Yu Qingluo, had never gone out of her way to cause her any trouble is already her luck. But now, it was she who came to find her own demise. If she doesn’t go and give Li Ranran a hand, wouldn’t that be too much of a disappointment?

“But, Young master, what if the Ghost Doctor has already left? Moreover, we have also made some inquiries and it seems that the Ghost doctor has an eccentric personality that might not necessarily be bought by money. So, there’s no guarantee that he’ll accept coming with us.” The subordinate once again opened his mouth to speak, on the other side of the screen. His voice sounded worried and somewhat unsatisfied. Almost as if he didn’t like the fact that Yu Zuolin left behind his duties in the capital just to run towards the City of Jiang for that woman.

Yu Zuolin gave him a cold look: “Yu Feng, aren’t you talking a lot today?”

Yu Feng stared blankly at him, hurrying to lower down his head, not daring to voice out his frustration anymore.

The room suddenly went completely silent. Only the occasional sound of the teacup touching the table and the low breaths of those two which let one know they were still present, could be heard.

On the other side of the screen, Yu Qingluo was mildly annoyed. If those people don’t get up and go, she would have no way to get out of this place.

Damnit, Nannan was still waiting for her in the restaurant, and if she doesn’t show up again that little guy will start stirring up some trouble.

While she thought about the restless little thing in her mind, she would have never expected that by this time he had fallen into another person’s hand. Nannan was in the process of keeping his mouth shut with his hands, he felt like crying but no tears would come out, as he was still being carried by the white-clothed lad in the middle of a road.

Until finally, the hands keeping his mouth shut were too tired, so, despite the warning from the man, Nannan couldn’t bear it any longer and finally spoke in a low voice: “Hey, if you keep on running the poison is going to spread through your entire body[2] and at that time, even if god descends, no one will be able to save you. Of course, it’s not like I care if you die or not. But if you die I’m going to be lost for sure here in the middle of nowhere[3]. I still haven’t married a wife, I still have so much to drink and eat. This type of premature death, wouldn’t it be a loss for the whole country and its people? What do you say?”

The man’s brows trembled slightly, his figure hurriedly flashed sideways, into an alleyway. Using a single hand, he covered Nannan’s mouth and squatted with him to hide.

Not long after, the pursuers entered running into the alleyway, without even noticing them they hurried farther and farther from the spot they were hiding in.

The white-clothed man relaxed for a second before his expression turned ice-cold, he put Nannan down into a wooden frame and stuck a big hand in front of him: “Give me the antidote.”

Nannan blinked, tilting his head to the side and then raising his head towards the sky. Oh, isn’t the weather today great? The sky so blue, the clouds so white… Oh, there’s even some small birds flying around, such pretty wings. Oh, the wind is also blowing so pleasantly, such a good time for a nap.

“If you don’t hand over the antidote, I’ll take your life.” The man pressed the blade of his sword against Nannan’s throat. The boy’s original grey complexion turned almost completely white at this moment.

“Swords have no eyes[4], you- you… if you are like that to me, I’ll pass out. Ah, I’m so dizzy, oh going dizzy, dizzy oh so dizzy… I’m really going to faint. You better believe me I’m soon going to blackout.”

The man’s mouth twitched in response to that nonsense. The sword in his hand was not moving an inch from the boy’s neck. His face turning overcast “Give me the antidote.”

“…” Nannan couldn’t understand, wasn’t he feeling the least bit threatened by his words? Really, not cute at all. The man was eyeing him so viciously that his head went blank. Shutting his eyes with an attitude of ‘I’m not afraid to die’, the little boy said: “There’s no antidote. If you really want to kill a little child, then just do it. But I’m going to tell you this first: if you really kill me, you’ll die too.”

“You…” the white-clothed man had never met such an unreasonable child, he cannot be persuaded by anything at all. Even with a blade pointed at his neck, he was still spewing a bunch of nonsense.

Coldly snorting, the man’s line of sight shifted towards the purse in the boy’s waist, he then reached out to take it. He started looking over its contents after opening it.

But it didn’t take long before his complexion turned dark again seeing the poison names written on each of the porcelain bottles inside. He was so angry that he could almost feel the blood surging in his throat[5].

Nannan let him flip the contents of the bag to his heart’s content. Seeing that he couldn’t find what he wanted, the boy smiled triumphantly and received back the small purse from his hands. The man looked extremely upset by now.

Of course, Nannan also knew not to overdo, so, after noticing that  the white-clothed man’s patience was cutting very short he decided that this was the right time for him to raise some conditions.

“Ah, about the poison in your body…”

“I don’t have the antidote for your poison in me.”

The man laughed coldly at this. Almost as if seeing through the boy’s thoughts. All that years of training to make him resistant to threats… and now, by such a small boy that has barely gotten out of his diapers… he stood his ground: “The physicians in the City of Jiang are many, could it be that you think I’d be unable to get an antidote? Unless you, right now, hand over the antidote, I will not let you live.”

Nannan gave him a look, did he make a mistake after all? Is this guy prepared to abandon everything? I’m soooo furious! Sure enough, if you can’t make someone join you, then get rid of them!

Nannan gave him a sneer: “You are sorely mistaken, the poisons developed by my mother can only be cured by her hands. You feel free to go around visiting all the physicians in the entire Country of FengCang, but you’ll be unable to find the cure to this poison…”

“Therefore, the antidote is in your mother’s hands?” The man turned relieved. He felt amused looking at the kid that made a fast move to cover his mouth.

Since it’s like that, he just has to search for the boy’s mother. Having her baby in his hands, would his mother still be unwilling to deliver the antidote?

Nannan though he had really brought a disaster upon his head. If this person brings his mother in front of him, she’s going to twist his neck, not wanting to recognize this stupid son at all.

This type of thing… it was not the first time that it happened after all.

“That… uncle, you are wrong. Actually, my mother doesn’t have the antidote. The antidote is with me. Really, I’ll give it to you.” After speaking he started to lower his head to look at the purse full of poisons, humming while searching actively for it.

The man couldn’t easily believe in any of his words, still a little uncertain of what trick the kid would try next. So, rather than letting the kid start thinking another of his weird ideas,  he might as well directly negotiate with his mother.

With this idea in mind, he picked Nannan up again and said: “No need, I’ll bring you back to the restaurant. I think… that your mom should be looking for you.”

Nannan’s eyes sprang wide open, this time… it’s over for good.

The man refused to acknowledge his pitiful expression, directly lifting him again.

However, before he had the time to pick him and leave, there’s was a sound of an explosion in the sky, followed by purple smoke.

Nannan watched him with a weird expression. Seeing that, the man unhesitantly decided to strike Nannan’s neck without a warning, knocking him down. And again, took the boy to flee towards the place where the purple smoke was rising from.

Translator’s Notes

[1] – Li Ranran is Yu Zuolin’s lover.

[2] – Another important concept of pharmacokinetics is Distribution (which follows absorption, previously explained). And this step depends on the behaviour and physical/chemical characteristics of a drug. A drug not necessarily will enter all of our organs and not all of the drug will enter at the same moment. That depends on how much is free to cross over and how much is being stored by the transporters inside our bloodstream (that would be proteins) and if it can cross the barriers and membranes of the cells. Of course! Nannan brought us a correct concept. Physical activity means increased heart rate, blood pressure and speed of the circulating blood. Therefore, the drug will be transported faster from the place it entered (the man’s arms) to the target organs (we will discover that based on the symptoms he shows later to us)! It was a bit long and extremely simplified, but I hope it was informative.

[3] – in the original he says something along the lines of “叫天天不应叫地地不灵的” which I believe is something along the lines of “even if I call out to the heavens or earth, not a single soul will answer” in a way to talk about how far away they are from other people.

[4] – “Swords have no eyes” is a saying used to warn armed people not to use their weapons so and hit innocent passerby by chance, since they have no eye to see the paths they moved towards.

[5] – There’s a lot of these “to spit blood” expressions. It’s basically the theory that excessive stress and anger can lead to the destruction of the gut lining and bleeding, which can cause a person to cough blood. Ofc, it’s mostly used figuratively in this type of situations… but they use it a lot in chinese novels.
