The Dishonest Son and The ‘Ghost’ Doctor Mother – Chapter 29

What He Said Makes Sense

Ghost Doctor?

Yu Qingluo lowered her head, trying to keep her expression neutral.

Ye Xiudu frowned, finally getting up from the couch, passing through the housekeeper and going out of the door.

Outside Mo Xian, Wen Tian and Shen Ying, with Nannan soundly sleeping in his arms, were already standing. Seeing him going out of the door, Wen Tian couldn’t hold himself and stepped forward: “Lord, that doctor whose reputation is as big as that of the Elder Doctor of Qiongshan, is truly in Jiang Cheng.”

Yu Qingluo’s lips trembled. It turns out that she was actually this famous. Seeing Wen Tian’s level of excitement, if he knew that she was the Ghost Doctor, would he have suspected her of poisoning Peng Ying earlier?

“Wu Dong said that she knows the Lord doesn’t trust her, but that she still has the Lord in her mind.” The housekeeper followed Ye Xiudu out of the door, speaking in a low voice: “She said that, in order to make the Lord’s body better and see if Master Peng’s poisoning is truly solved for good, it would be better to ask the Ghost Doctor for an examination.”

Ye Xiudu snorted: “There’s no need. We have Miss Yu here in the Residence. Her medical skills aren’t bad.”

Yu Qingluo’s mood lifted as she heard those words. This Wu Dong really likes to brush her face in front of others. Even after being kicked out of the house, she still has the guts to come by, moreover bringing her alias, the Ghost Doctor, as an excuse to do so. She was really trying to bring her own death with her own hands.

Wen Tian, however, became anxious at Ye Xiudu’s words, hurriedly stepping up once again and trying to persuade him: “Lord, I know that Miss Yu’s medical skills are great, and I also believe that she is capable of healing both yours’s and Peng Ying’s wounds. But she is also just a young girl, and her experience isn’t as deep as those of a senior such as the Ghost Doctor. Since the coming of the Ghost Doctor to Jiang Cheng has already been confirmed by your subordinate, and he’ll be here to see patients in the Fulong Inn, located in the southern part of the city’s suburbs in two days, I think there’ll be nothing to lose if we go see him.” Yu Qingluo turned her head to look at him. How come Wen Tian gave her the feeling that he had some fondness for the Ghost Doctor? It was like he admired him deeply. Also, just who told him that the Ghost Doctor was an old man? His hair was long, but his knowledge short [1].

Seeing everyone else’s attitudes, it seemed as if they all agreed with his opinion.

Since it’s like that…

“I also think that Wen Tian’s statement makes sense.”

As soon as those words sounded, everyone’s eyes went to her. Even Ye Xiudu raised his eyebrows in surprise. He thought that Wen Tian’s words would definitely make her unhappy, after all, she was such an arrogant person and would definitely be unhappy to see her skills questioned by others.

But he couldn’t have imagined that she would actually agree with Wen Tian’s words.

Yu Qingluo shrugged her shoulders: “Why are you looking at me? I am a doctor. Of course, I’d be very curious about these characters with lots of rumours surrounding them. Maybe I could exchange medical knowledge with him. Right?”

Ye Xiudu eyed her with a weird expression. After a brief moment of silence, he nodded at everyone’s anticipation. “Since Miss Yu wants to see him, then let us take a look.”

“…” the other four were flabbergasted at Ye Xiudu’s choice of words, directing a look at Yu Qingluo again.

Listening to the way he worded his sentence, why did it seem as if Miss Yu was the real Lord of this residence instead?

“Hic, drink… drink again…” Nannan drunkenly lifted his head from Shen Ying’s shoulder, glancing at his mother’s direction dazedly. His head tilted and he fell asleep again on Shen Ying’s shoulder.

Yu Qingluo’s lips twitched at the sight, hugging him in her arms she then prepared to return to her room.

“Wait a minute.” As she had just taken her first steps to leave, Ye Xiudu called her from behind. Afterwards, he lifted a small porcelain vase in front of her making her look puzzled at him. Ye Xiudu turned his head away and said: “This scorpion belongs to you.”

(TL: ML tsundere much?)

Scorpion? Yu Qingluo grabbed the bottle in abruptly and glared at him. She had wondered before why her treasured scorpion didn’t return, so it was actually because it was in his hands.

After putting the small vase in her robes, she immediately left towards her courtyard, without another word.

Shen Ying who was staying on the sidelines turned around and followed her steps with a flattering tone: “Miss Yu, allow me to carry the little guy, so as not to tire you any longer.”

Ye Xiudu’s lips pressed tightly into a straight line as he looked gloomily at the three figures walking away, looking exactly like a family.

The housekeeper felt the temperature around Ye Xiudu’s body drop, making him tremble. It took some time before he could finally muster the courage to talk again: “Lord, Wu Dong…” was still waiting outside.

“Send her back.” His voice was frosty as he interrupted his servant’s speech. Without waiting for an answer, he turned around and went back into his room, closing the door behind with a ‘bang’.

Mo Xian and Wen Tian glanced at one another; both wore confused expressions on their faces. They couldn’t understand why their Lord’s temper turned so aggressive all of sudden.

The housekeeper was full of bitterness. Walking slowly out of the yard and towards the main door.

Wu Dong was still waiting, her eyes lit up as soon as she saw the housekeeper returning. She couldn’t hold herself from peeking behind him, but seeing no one, she asked: “Housekeeper Yan[2], where’s the Lord?”

“The Lord asked you to leave.”  knowing what kind of person Wu Dong was, the housekeeper’s attitude towards her was poor. His expression no longer held a shred of respect for her like it held for Yu Qingluo right now. In just a few days, it seemed that Yu Qingluo left a very deep impression in everyone’s hearts making them act more carefully when around her.

‘Go back?’ Wu Dong had a hard time believing in it.

“Housekeeper Yan, have you explained it all to the Lord?”

“I have told the Lord your exact words. And the Lord is also aware of the Ghost Doctor’s presence in Jiang City. I said it all very clearly, and I also believe that the Lord understood it all just as clearly.”

“Then… then, did you tell him that I’m very worried about his wound and that he shouldn’t believe that woman surnamed Yu?”

The housekeeper’s expression started to turn impatient. Miss Yu detoxified Master Peng’s poisoning and healed the Lord’s wounds. If they couldn’t believe her, then who was that they were supposed to trust?

“Anyways, everything you asked me to convey I have already done so. As for what the Lord wishes to do, that’s his business and I can’t interfere with it. You go. Don’t show up in the Mo residence anymore.”

Wu Dong gritted her teeth, glaring at the housekeeper Yan, who just 2 days ago used to treat her so respectfully, but now his words made her mad to the point of spitting blood. It really is a dog’s eyes looking down at a person[3]. Does he actually think so highly of himself?

“Housekeeper Yan, has the Lord said that he will go see the Ghost Doctor?” Wu Dong calmly asked, suppressing her anger. She couldn’t get inside the Mo Residence anymore, so she could only wait for the Lord to come out. She didn’t believe in Housekeeper Yan in front of her anymore. She felt that he didn’t make her words clear enough to the Lord like she had asked. If the Lord goes to consult the Ghost Doctor in two days, that might be her last chance to see him.

But how could the housekeeper miss the meaning of the look in her eyes? Without a word he turned around and closed the door directly.

Wu Dong was so angry at his actions that she slammed her hands against the door twice, yelling at it: “Housekeeper Yan, what do you mean by this? Open the door! If you dare treat me like this now, you’ll regret what happens later! Open the door! Open the door, now!”

The housekeeper sneered, rolling his eyes at her threat he left without looking back.

Wu Dong clamoured outside of the main door for a long time but heard nothing but silence in return. Instead, several houses outside had heard her voice and there were heads already peeking out to see what was going on.

Feeling embarrassed by this, Wu Dong cursed at the door then hurriedly left with her head buried in her chest.

However, as soon as she walked out of sight of the secret guards of the residence two people suddenly appeared and jumped out at her. Pulling her into a sack and disappearing into an alley.

Translator’s Notes

[1] – It’s an analogy that means ‘despite his age he is quite lacking in knowledge’ – a note is that, in ancient China, cutting one’s hair was considered disrespectful towards one’s elders. Since the hair is given to you by your parents, so it was common for people to grow them exceptionally long and tie it up. Thereby length of hair = one’s age.

[2] – It’s the housekeeper’s surname, Yan. I’ll try to only mention names as the author reveals them… but sometimes I just think she either forgets or can’t be bothered to do so, haha.

[3] – I believe that the meaning of the sentence should be something ‘An inferior person looking at a superior person thinking himself as the superior one.’. In Chinese, there are a lot of ‘dog’ related phrases. The more modern ones are nicer than the ancient ones.
