The Dishonest Son and The ‘Ghost’ Doctor Mother – Chapter 43

Unable to sit still

Jin Liuli entered through the door sulking, she initially avoided glancing at the woman’s body lying on the floor, instead she stared blankly, with some astonishment, straight at the man standing right in the centre of the room.

Beforehand she had been standing outside the room was unable to see what occurred inside. She just subtly felt a murderous intent coming from inside, one that was hard to ignore. It was enough, though, to make her understand that Ye Xiudu’s martial skills were way above hers.

But now that she was able to check Shuang Ke’s wound out she realized that this man seemed to be even more powerful than what she had pictured previously.

Jin Liuli glanced at Yu Qingluo with some worry. Would it really be safe for her friend to associate herself with this man? Not to mention, listening to his earlier conversation with Shuang Ke, it looked like suffering assassination attempts was a common occurrence for him. One has to remember that Yu Qingluo was bringing a small child around with her so Jin Liuli was afraid that this would put them in endless danger.

Yu Qingluo’s thoughts, nevertheless, weren’t as complicated as Jin Liuli believed to be. Her only objective was those 15 million silver. The moment she got the money into her hands, she would leave without a second thought, moving as far away from the Mo residence and its members as possible.

Not to mention she didn’t know just what kind of backstory that Ye Xiudu had to be in such complicated circumstances. Merely the fact that he could possibly be Nannan’s father made her want to bring her kid as far away as possible from him.

Therefore, she had to guarantee Ye Xiudu’s safety as well as keep him in a calm and serene state of mind. And when she gets her hands on the money, then never mind falling out with him, it would be ok even if she wanted to have a catfight with him.[1]

“Liuli, bring the next patient in.” After Jin Liuli took care of Shuang Ke’s body and finished wiping off the bloodstains from the floor, Yu Qingluo sat down once again and arranged her surgical instruments over the tabletop.

What a joke, the main dish she was preparing to savour had yet to be served.

She had already finished arranging her medical tools, preparing herself to receive the next patient, when she finally remembered about that third part still being present inside of the room.

That Wu Dong… it seems that she was still behind the wooden screen where Ye Xiudu had left her some time ago.

Her fingers came to a halt and Yu Qingluo’s eyes moved towards that Ye whatever-his-name was still laying with his eyes closed on the beauty recliner where. She asked him: “How should we deal with Wu Dong?”

“You can call the shots.” Ye Xiudu didn’t even bother opening his eyes to answer her question.

She can call the shots?

“I am a doctor.” Therefore, don’t leave the bloody work in her hands. And continued: “A doctor saves those who are dying and aids those who are in need of treatment. Do you want to treat her?”

“Let her die without pain.”

“Ok, sounds like you made a choice.”

Yu Qingluo once again repeated her internal mantra ’15 million silvers, 15 million silvers…’. This man was just her cash cow, it made no sense for someone to be angry at your own cash cow. If she did, the losses might be greater than the reward, it would only make it look like she had no poise nor bearing and still cause her to end up hurting herself in the process. So she remained unperturbed.

Jin Liuli looked astounded at Yu Qingluo who was desperate to keep all of her anger under control, feeling secretly surprised at the sight.

She and that little wench had known each other for a long time. A woman like Yu Qingluo, who existed only to anger others ’til death, had never been so passive. And even when she suffered a loss, she would for sure not try to hold herself back like this. Her personality has always been that arrogant and bold.

Why is it that in front of Ye Xiudu she suddenly had no strength to fight back?

Jin Liuli was feeling perplexed but in order to avoid being mixed in, she took the initiative to break the stiff atmosphere.

“I believe that there’s no need for us to deal with that person. I previously noticed that the woman from before used an unusual type of acupuncture method to press on her back. I think that if no one knows how to untie this specific method, then Wu Dong might not be able to live for much longer anyway. Since it’s like that, then there’s no need for us to take this matter into our own hands, it’s enough to just let her life run its course.”If she survives, then it was because she was fated so.

Jin Liuli didn’t say this because she was planning to take mercy on Wu Dong. She was an assassin after all, and an assassin never showed mercy to others.

It’s just that Wu Dong was the disciple of the world-famous Qiongshan old doctor. And she knew that, just like Yu Qingluo, he was the type of person who had connections to many capable and powerful people. If one day he discovered that Wu Dong’s death was related to them it would definitely bring them a lot of unnecessary troubles.

That might not be too important for her, Yu Qingluo or Ye Xiudu, but they had to prepare a safeguard for Nannan in case something happened. That brat… he couldn’t meet a mishap through no fault of his own.

Yu Qingluo naturally understood where Jin Liuli was coming from. Although she had always believed that eliminating the root of a problem was the best path to choose, this time she decided to leave leeway for the sake of her son.

Furthermore, whether Wu Dong was able to survive or not, it was still undecided.

Seeing that Yu Qingluo didn’t disagree, Jin Liuli turned her eyes to Ye Xiudu, only to be taken aback by the man’s nonchalance, still appearing to be half-asleep with his eyes closed. She then turned around and left the room dragging Wu Dong with her. She went straight to a small alley behind Jiang Cheng’s marketplace and threw her back there, then turned around and left without paying any mind.

The inside of the room became quiet again. Yu Qingluo saw that Ye Xiudu was still there without a care in the world for the patients. It was as if this was his own room. She could only grit her teeth at this scene.

The woman that just came to assassinate him was too dull. Why couldn’t she gather the last bit of strength left to beat him into a coma before dying? Leaving this person so conscious and healthy beside her would very much influence her mood. Ok?

Eh, wait a minute.

Yu Qingluo suddenly turned her head to scrutinize the man lying on the beauty recliner. Even after the clash just now, though this man had been previously wounded, up ‘til this moment he had yet to let out a single complaint.

How could a person with such high martial skills be hurt in the first place? And still hurt by that same woman’s hands.

Although Yu Qingluo was very nimble, she had no inner strenght[2]. So she didn’t have much knowledge about the martial arts practised in this time and space. (TL: I believe this is transmigration to another world, not to the past, but she is in an ancient times setting as well, so I’ll use both time and space to refer to it)

Therefore, besides her surprise about how that woman was delivered the fatal blow, she hadn’t thought much about this matter at that time.

But thinking about this now, it seemed that she had been underestimating Ye Xiudu’s skills all along.

“Ye Xiudu.”

The man resting over the beauty recliner opened his eyes a bit and glanced in her direction: “Hm?”

“Since your martial skills are this good, that woman was never an opponent at your level. So how come she wounded you, to begin with?” And the wound was so serious, to the point, it almost took his life.

Ye Xiudu closed his eyes again. But after a brief moment of silence, he answered the question in a lower voice: “Haven’t you just acquainted yourself with their underhanded methods?”

Underhanded methods?

When she understood what he meant, Yu Qingluo was stunned. After that woman engaged in a fight with Ye Xiudu, she still aimed after her (YQL) life, using a very despicable trick to try and get the upper hand.

“At that time, they attacked me in a group. Part of them came to deal with me while the other part aimed for the panther’s life.” said those words, Ye Xiudu stopped talking.

Yu Qingluo squinted her eyes. So the wound he had on his body was something he suffered when trying to block the panther from being wounded?

The so-called bond between a human and an animal, eh…

Yu Qingluo considered mentioning it. But instead kept quiet and turned her face away from him.

(TL: I rewrote this last small paragraph. She originally wanted to mock him for the love between him and his panther, but then gave up after a second thought. However… I found the way the author wrote it to be very weird so It became this. What’s the problem with loving your pet like it’s part of your family? And if it was insinuating other things… this is not included in the tags for this novel, so I refuse to write that way as well.)

Both people were deep in silence, the air inside of the room serene. Such a quiet and peaceful ambience lead Yu Qingluo to believe that this was a place that belonged only to both of them. Such atmosphere made it look like this was the place she wished to belong to.

But seeing Ye Xiudu’s satisfaction, she felt a chill run down her spine and herself starting to sweat in fright. (TL: Cuz how can you be comfortable around someone you wish would be miles away from you? She’s afraid that she’s actually pleased to be around this person.)

This sort of subtle and ineffable mood lasted, in between the periods which Jin Liuli brought other patients in and out.

Yu Qingluo then focused wholeheartedly on diagnosing, treating and prescribing to those patients. As the time passed, the sun started falling back into the horizon, coming to be aligned right above the windowsill.

Jin Liuli brought each of the patients in and out, becoming very busy.

Until… the 49th patient was finally taken back by her. At this exact time, there was a person inside the private boxes that seemed unable to sit still anymore.

Translator’s Notes

[1] “To have a catfight/To have a bitch fight” – It depicts that type of fight where people who are untrained and just blindly use violence against the other part, like clawing and pulling the other’s hairs. Like a cat, really. xD

[2] Inner strength, Qi – It’s basically some sort of energy, or ‘mana’ if you will (but no magic in here, ok?) that martial artists wield. It’s something like this: You meditate and do some special breathing exercises to bring in Qi, and you accumulate it on your Dan Tian (like a small storage, located a bit below your navel), and the denser it is, the stronger you are. This type of training is combined with muscle training and other skill sets. So yeah, if you never saw any manhua or novels of this genre, just think of mana and western magicians, they accumulate mana and can wield it similarly to magic to perform their actions. 😀
