The Dishonest Son and The ‘Ghost’ Doctor Mother – Chapter 58

Your Translator and Editor duo welcomes you all back!

ED: Welcome back folks! We are happy to be translating again. I didn’t really get to rest at all, but I’ve been missing this story quite a lot and building a story out of whatever C puts out is also very fun.

TL: To all our dear readers, your translator welcomes you back. These days have been really busy, but thankfully we have been able to have chapters ready for the promised day.
This break wasn’t without unexpected loss, however. As I finally managed to watch the TV series for this webnovel. I was utterly disappointed, I must say. I knew it was an adaptation and because of that it wouldn’t follow exactly the novel plot.
However i felt it was more like a fanfiction. The characters have the same name, but it was a romantic comedy. Not even the characters identity was kept. 🥲
So if someone is discouraged to read thinking it’ll be like that. Then you are mistaken. Be happy, the webnovel is a thousand times better!! And, happy reading ~

A letter from the Capital

Immediately afterwards, a figure, light as a feather, jumped into the carriage.

Yu Qingluo clutched her belongings, wrapped in cloth, once again into her arms, frowning she asked: “What did you come for?”

“I’m going together with you to the Capital.” Jin Liuli chose a place for her to sit inside the carriage, stretching her hands to feel the cushioning of the sit under her body and finding it to be comfortable and soft, very nice to the touch.

Obviously, those guys from the Mo Residence were pretty considerate.

Yu Qingluo glanced at her: “Didn’t you say that you were planning on staying in that Inn[1] in Jiang Cheng for the rest of your life?”

“Am I not doing this to protect you and Nannan? If I were to just let you two return by yourselves to the Capital, I would be really worried for you.” Jin Liuli took off the veil covering her face and sighed in relief, feeling the jolt of the carriage as it started to move, she leaned on the soft cushion behind her in a comfortable position, looking outside of the window lazily.

She was very clear in her heart. Yu Qingluo’s trip to the capital this time would definitely not be steady nor smooth.

About the others, she actually didn’t care much, but she was afraid that some people might aim at Nannan. Although that kid wasn’t easy to deal with, it was hard to tell if there wouldn’t be people using despicable methods to do so.

If she is there, she could help them a bit.

Yu Qingluo pursed her lips, after looking at Jin Liuli for some time, she finally closed her eyes and covertly let some words out: “Thanks a lot.”

“Heh… it’s really not easy to hear those words coming from your mouth.”

Mo Xian and the others, outside of the carriage, just glanced at each other but didn’t speak although the speed with which the carriage was moving increased slightly. In any case, they were here right now to protect the two women inside of the carriage.

The carriage moved for half a day until it finally reached an inn and they decided to rest for a night.

The next morning, they once again hit the road, moving nonstop towards the Capital.

However, it was just as Yu Qingluo expected, the journey along this road certainly wouldn’t be too smooth.

It was still late morning when the carriage was met with a road blocked ahead.

“Miss Yu, Miss Jin. There are bandits on the road ahead, please stay still in the carriage and we shall soon resume the journey.”

Yu Qingluo let out a low ‘Hm’. And ignoring everything else, she laid against the plushy woollen blanket with eyes closed.

Jin Liuli pushed open the corner of the curtains to peep at the scene outside. After some time, she gave a light smile: “Although they are dressed as bandits, just by looking at their posture and standing, I can tell that they are much more likely deadmen[2].”

Yu Qingluo turned over and lazily asked: “Do you want to join the fight?”

“Those three are already enough and you still want me to go out and fight?” Jin Liuli put the curtain down. Hearing the sound of clashing closer to the carriage, Mo Xian jumped down from the carriage and joined the others, preventing those ‘bandits’ from approaching them.

Yu Qingluo once again let out a low ‘Hm’, appearing to be more restless.

That Ye Xiudu was clearly aware that someone would definitely intercept them on their journey and also knew that she (YQL) would follow Shen Ying and the others to the Capital and surely become a target of the attackers. In spite of everything, he ran away with her son without a single care. Ah, they were actually in a safer spot, but her, this innocent and weak lady, was directly pushed into the eye of the storm.

Yu Qingluo felt upset, extremely upset.

Silently she began to count in her head. If she counts to 10 and those three still aren’t done with those guys posing as bandits outside, then she wouldn’t be polite anymore. Friend or foe, she’d act against them all regardless.

One, two, three, four, five, six…

“Miss Yu, we have startled you. Those outside have already been disposed of, we shall continue our way.” Before she managed to count to 10, Shen Ying’s voice sounded from outside.

Yu Qingluo’s irritation reduced a bit. Closing her eyes again, she drifted into sleep peacefully.

Jin Liuli was inwardly relieved. Others weren’t aware of it, but she knew it very well. Just now, this little wench was planning on going out for blood. Fortunately, those three outside are very capable.

After the ambush, Mo Xian and the others sped up their pace, not daring to delay their journey in the slightest. They were on the move even when eating their meals.

Shen Ying and the others, however, had long been used to these situations and this type of eating habits but they were afraid of wronging Yu Qingluo and Jin Liuli.

So when he sent food into the carriage, his face still carried a mix of embarrassment and helplessness.

Yu Qingluo kept her glamorous and noble posture along the way. And except for monosyllabic answers, she did not utter another word.

On her side, Jin Liuli waved her hands in a natural and unrestrained manner: “It’s ok. No matter how hard it is I’m able to withstand it all. And Qingluo! She’s not some rich miss that can’t bear any hardships.”

Shen Ying felt a lot more relaxed after that and couldn’t hold himself from glancing in Jin Liuli’s direction. However, her face was covered by a thin veil, making him all more regretful in his heart.

After travelling for half a month, the carriage was finally approaching the Capital, just a hundred miles[3] left to reach their destination. But the closer they were to the Capital, the more vigilant Shen Ying and the others became.

Yu Qingluo, who was sitting inside of the carriage, felt her back aching. Her body was feeble all over when they finally arrived at an inn, she couldn’t care about anything else. All she wanted was to take a bath and have a good and restful night of sleep.

After all, she wasn’t originally a person from ancient times and was still used to long-travels in modern vehicles. She was nowhere near Jin Liuli’s energetic self after such a long time swaying back and forth seated inside a carriage.

Shen Ying also knew that Yu Qingluo had been tired by these days of long travel and felt sorry for her. He quickly asked the waiter to send hot water to her room while he and the others went around to secure the perimeter around the inn.

Jin Liuli sat behind a screen, inside of the room, listening to the sound of water splashing on the other side. Chuckling she said: “We will soon arrive at the Capital, what are your plans?”

“To find Nannan.” Yu Qingluo leaned comfortably against the bathtub. The steam from the hot water curled in the air around her making her feel a hazy but cosy feeling.

“And then?”

“To find Ge momo.”

Jin Liuli was unable to help but laugh: “I think, things won’t go that smoothly. Qingluo, have you ever considered letting Ye Xiudu help you? We could see along the way that his bodyguards aren’t simple characters. Ye Xiudu’s power and abilities shouldn’t be underestimated and if you let him help you, maybe you can get twice the result with half the effort. It’s always better than you not even knowing where to start.”

Let Ye Xiudu help? Yu Qingluo became quiet for a second then, rubbing her hands, she laughed at herself: “I’m now urgently trying to draw a line with him.”

Jin Liuli raised a brow, ‘I’m afraid that won’t be easy to do’. Yu Qingluo is such a shrewd person, so how couldn’t she see that Ye Xiudu was determined to take her under his wings? Let’s not mention her identity as the Ghost Doctor. That man surnamed Ye would not let her go this easily. And more than that… she could see that his interest in Yu Qingluo was greater than just an interest in this identity of hers.

Furthermore, he and Nannan were so compatible. Maybe they both wanted him to become Nannan’s father.

As she was thinking about that, there was a knock outside of the door of the room, which was followed by Wen Tian’s somewhat excited voice: “Is Miss Yu asleep? I have a letter that just came from the capital with me that I think Miss Yu would be interested in.”

Translator’s Notes

[1] I’m officially swapping Tavern for Inn. As you see, I have searched a bit and it was supposed to be an Inn.

[2] 死士 – ‘deadman’ – I don’t know if there’s a term for this in English. But they are basically soldiers trained to protect or complete missions for their masters despite the danger of death. They are called deadmen because they are likely to carry out suicide attacks/missions. And these soldiers are usually selected from orphans to minimize the attachment towards their family or the danger of betrayal.

[3] this ‘里’ is used for Chinese miles (li), which isn’t the same as the miles from the imperial system of units used in the USA and other countries. According to my wiki search “The li has varied considerably over time but was usually about one-third of an English mile and now has a standardized length of half-kilometre (500 meters or 1,640 feet or 0.31 mile). This is then divided into 1,500 chi or “Chinese feet”.”
