The Dishonest Son and The ‘Ghost’ Doctor Mother – Chapter 59

Go out and take a walk

A letter came from the Capital?

The sound of water splashing was heard as Yu Qingluo stood up from the bathtub, her skin had a reddish tinge to it from staying in the hot water for too long. She took her clothes out of the hanger and tightly wrapped herself, covering her body.

Jin Liuli gave her a glance and then got up to open the door.

Wen Tian’s face was filled with tiredness but that still couldn’t hide the happiness seeping from the curved corners of his lips. Handing the letter over to Jin Liuli he chuckled: “News arrived from the Capital. We knew that Miss Yu would certainly be happy to know this, so we came to bring it over to you.”

Jin Liuli took the envelope, which had already been opened, the content was probably read by Wen Tian and the others already: “Thanks a lot.”

“Then I won’t disturb the both of you any longer. Rest earlier. We’ll be guarding the inn so that nothing happens.” Wen Tian nodded his head with a smile before turning around to return to his room.

Jin Liuli walked back inside, taking the letter from inside of the envelope as she moved towards Yu Qingluo.

Yu Qingluo was already seated near the table, wiping her hair dry. When she took the letter that Jin Liuli handed over, a few of the drops fell from her wet hair and smudged the ink on the paper.

But paying it no mind, she kept on reading the content of the letter, unable to contain herself from letting out a low-pitched laugh.

“Why was he only demoted?” Jin Liuli looked at the content of the letter, seemingly unsatisfied with it.

“It seems that Lin Fan wasn’t able to hurry back before Yu Zuolin pleaded his own guilt.” This kind of result was within her expectations.

Yu Zuolin is a military official and Lin Fan is a civil official, so their physical strength was far too different from one another. Furthermore, Yu Zuolin had departed first, and after rushing day and night towards the Capital he was able to confess his crimes to the Emperor first. He wasn’t a stupid man and somewhat understood the Emperor’s temper after many years serving as an official, therefore, he was aware of how to appease his Majesty.

Therefore, when Lin Fan arrived, the emperor had already delivered the Imperial Decree proclaiming his punishment and it could no longer be changed.

(TL: Words of the emperor are absolute. If he just changes his imperial edicts at will then this won’t be taken lightly by the officials and the nobility. The Emperor, although very powerful, must keep a balance and can’t do anything he wants to whenever he wants. Tyrant emperors only exist in these times where they have all the military strength in their hands and the other countries can’t act against them. :P)

Furthermore, even though Yu Zuolin is a selfish and ruthless person he was still skilled in commanding and fighting. Nowadays in this era of peace and prosperity, it was difficult for a military officer to rise above others (TL: to display his talent through merits conquered in battle and gaining prestige among the masses). After some hardship, the country finally had an honourable young general, so it was unlikely that the Emperor would cut off all his paths to retreat.

When the time to employ Yu Zuolin arrives, it won’t be difficult to reinstate his position.

And what about herself? What could Yu Qingluo do? She will make sure to use this opportunity to crush him so fiercely that he won’t have any chance of turning this situation in his favour.

Closing the letter, Yu Qingluo’s mood brightened a lot and the irritation she felt from being chase and assassination attempts on these last days had also mostly vanished.

Still, she hadn’t seen Nannan for half a month already and she somewhat missed him.

She thought that, considering into account how long they had been travelling, if there were no accidents on the road, then they should have reached the Capital by now.

However, what Yu Qingluo could have never expected was that — Nannan was only a street away from where she was staying at this moment.

“Uncle Ye, how long are we going to stay in here?” Nannan was feeling bored, laying on the table with his tongue out like he was trying to gasp for air.

Ye Xiudu looked at the window in the inn opposite to the place where they were staying, his eyes narrowing slightly as he reached his hand to pat the little kid’s head. Smiling, he said: “We’ll be leaving tomorrow.”

They had been staying in this inn for the last 3 days with the purpose of waiting for Shen Ying and his party to catch up with them.

The closer they got to the Capital, the more dangerous their journey would become. He wasn’t very worried about Shen Ying and the others, but Yu Qingluo… she’d probably become the main target of those assassins.

Thankfully their journey was a safe and sound one. But continuing from this point onwards he would protect her in secret.

After hearing his words, Nannan’s eyes shone brightly. Climbing on his Ye Xiudu’s back, he started gnawing on his ears: “Has my mother arrived too? Is this it? Is this it?”

After such a long time apart, he suddenly started missing his mother. Although she mistreated him from time to time, not giving him any alcohol (TL: that’s not mistreating, alright) or money nor taking him on a walk, still she remained by his side when he is tyrannically abusing other people. Hm, this was mother’s only good point.

(TL: Nannan learned a lesson from Yu Qingluo. It’s better to be the bully yourself than being bullied.)

“Uhum, she arrived.”

“Then let’s go and find her. Go fast, fast!” Nannan suddenly jumped off his back, acting the complete opposite of his former listless self as he hurriedly bolted out of the room.

Ye Xiudu helplessly stroked his forehead as he went to bring the little guy back inside: “Do you want to go find her now? Aren’t you afraid that she’ll be angry with you and punish you?”

Nannan’s body trembled immediately in a cowardly manner, his head shrinking back as he spoke in a low voice: ” Afraid.”

Ye Xiudu’s brows raised in satisfaction: “That’s why we can only follow her quietly, got it?” This little guy was absolutely fearless, but when it comes to Yu Qingluo, he was extremely scared. When he didn’t behave, all he had to do was bring Yu Qingluo’s name out and he immediately became well behaved, obeying all his words.

Nannan immediately lowered his head, sighing like a little adult. He turned around to climb on the black panther’s back, sulking.

The black panther felt as if they were in the depths of hell as they had been carrying him around straight these days. It didn’t matter if they only listened to him grumbling around during the day but why should they accompany this little devil at night as well? Master, you are way too unfair.

Ye Xiudu looked at the duo, one boy one panther before turning his head to look again at the brightly lit inn on the opposite side of the street.

That woman, she should also be missing Nannan a lot.

Soon, as long as they reach the Capital, he will let mother and son meet each other again, without the threat of being besieged by those assassins anymore.

As the night gradually sank in, the fire lit inside of the inn started dying out and the light dimmed. Ye Xiudu turned his head to look back and noticed that Nannan and the black panther had already fallen asleep. The corners of his mouth moved up as he bent over to hug Nannan to the bed.

The black panther opened their eyes almost immediately as he had moved, raising their fur in vigilance.

Seeing that it was their master, they immediately relaxed and closed their eyes again.

“I’m going to take a walk around, I’ll leave Nannan in your care.” Ye Xiudu went to the panther’s side and patted its back. The latter seemed to understand his words and jumped over the bed at once, lying beside Nannan as if they were protecting him like a guard.

Ye Xiudu looked at the roof where a few secret guards protecting them were hiding. He felt it was safe enough to leave Nannan by himself. (TL: Not exactly by himself, but y’all got it.)

After the night became darker, Ye Xiudu put on his outer robes and left the inn quietly, jumping over the roof of the inn/building opposite to the one he has been staying in.

Yu Qingluo had gone to sleep earlier. For her who had been travelling inside of a carriage for an entire day, just having a firm grounded place to sleep was already the most comfortable situation.

Therefore, she was completely oblivious to the fact that Ye Xiudu sneaked into her room, as she laid on her bed, dead to the world.

Nannan had told him that when Yu Qingluo slept in an unfamiliar place, she would place poison around the bed, so if people came in contact with it, they would feel as if they were being burned. To make use of this poison, she placed a hidden contraption near her bed. As long as one came near it, it would release several needles coated in that substance towards the people approaching from the door.

(TL: Well, since it’s an irritant/corrosive agent that seems to act on the skin, I believe that the painful effect should be immediate. And oh well, Chinese doctor transmigrators and using needles as a weapon is a mainstream combo. We just can’t not have it! At least it’s not a mysterious flying powder that when it touches people makes them puke black blood. That’s always so hilarious.)

Ye Xiudu walked steadily, looking around for the contraption but he wasn’t able to detect where it had been set.

Nevertheless, the information provided by Nannan couldn’t be wrong.

Ye Xiudu stood some steps away from the bed Yu Qingluo was sleeping. Seeing that she was safe and sound, seemingly unharmed, not cold nor hungry and free of grievances, he felt somewhat relieved.

Since everything was fine then he wouldn’t stay any longer.

However, before he had the chance to leave there was a loud noise coming from downstairs.

(TL: Better leave fast. If you’re branded as a creepy stalker then it might be hard to wash yourself clean yo~)
