The Dishonest Son and The ‘Ghost’ Doctor Mother – Chapter 79

Give Me Proof of Your Promise.

Jin Liuli was taken aback, she looked around but saw that, fortunately, no one else had seen Mo Xian, so she went ahead to pull him into a corner.

“Why did you come?”

Mo Xian kept silent and glanced towards the room where Yu Qingluo was inside, saying solemnly: “Those aren’t ordinary people.”

Jin Liuli’s brows raised, as she laughed: “I know, they are from Liuyun.”

“Since you know then, why is Miss Yu still treating them? Messing with royals brings a lot of troubles.”  Mo Xian frowned. Noticing the disapproval on her face he hesitated on whether he should tell them their Lord’s identity. After all, even if they didn’t care about it, they were now in the same boat as the Lord, so they still had to consider how things might impact his side too.

Jin Liuli was helpless: “It’s not me who is treating them. You also know Qingluo’s temper. Who she wants to cure and who she wants to kill, that’s her choice and I can’t stop her.”

“You…” Mo Xian got a little anxious and it took some time before he opened his mouth again, to say in a lowered voice: “Miss Jin, please go in and talk to Miss Yu. If you get involved with these people, the Lord might be in trouble.”

Liuyun’s Royal Family was somewhat large and if there was someone who knew that Miss Yu treated them and discovered the relationship between their Lord and her, he was afraid that they would accuse their Lord of associating with the enemy.

Jin Liuli had seldom seen him with such a prudent and solemn attitude (TL: well, you barely know him), so, after giving it a thought she gave him an unwilling nod. After all, she felt that even if she went to talk with Yu Qingluo, that little wench, she would probably not stop.

There’s probably no one that can interfere with her decisions.

Mo Xian noticed her agreement and let out a relieved breath.

Jin Liuli laughed seeing his response, quite sympathetic towards his person. Following that, she slowly walked into the room where everyone had entered just now.

Inside o the room the atmosphere was a bit tense, especially the man who had his eyes tightly locked on Yu Qingluo’s body as if he feared she’d do something to harm his master at any time.

He looked like he really wanted to raise his voice and warn her, however, he knew that the woman in front of him was very arrogant, if he said something he shouldn’t have and upset her, he might end up putting his master in danger instead.

Therefore, he could only tighten his lips and take this risk. In any case, if this woman really wanted to harm their master, she would be dead at that moment.

Jin Liuli ignored his line of sight and walked over to Yu Qingluo’s side, approaching her ear, she whispered the words Mo Xian had delivered her.

Yu Qingluo heard those words and couldn’t help but laugh: “Go and tell him that, right now, I’m really pissed at Ye Xiudu.” meaning – she had no intention of listening to his plea.

Finished speaking, she closed her mouth and went on to check the patient’s situation. Her brows twisted when she saw the condition of the man of smaller build: darkened face and hands, sunken eyes, cold extremities, his throat was hoarse, anuria (TL: wasn’t urinating ), thread-like and almost non-existing pulse, sudoresis (TL: sweating) and his tongue had a purple coating. He was critically ill.

It was expected, cholera was a disease with fast-onset and high lethality.

She immediately ignored all the other people in the room and turned back to take her medical kit. After spreading it over a table, she then took two needles and puncture two acupoints – Quchi and Weizhong.

Jiang Yunsheng and the man behind took a step forward at the same time, but when they saw that the blood coming out of those places was darkened, they were both shocked and nervous.

Yu Qingluo didn’t stop for a moment, turning around to order Jiang Yunsheng: “Doctor Jiang, you copy my movements and do what I do to the other person to his side.”

“Eh?” Jiang Yunsheng was taken aback, seeing the situation of the taller patient was also severe. At the moment he couldn’t deal with a lot, so he hurriedly followed yu Qingluo’s method and punctured his acupoints as well.

After the emergency treatment was delivered, Yu Qingluo stopped and immediately wrote a prescription: Skullcap (黄芩), Cape Jasmine (栀子), Black Bean, Chinese Gold-thread (黄连), bamboo shavings (竹茹), Job’s tears (薏苡仁), Crow-dipper (半夏), Silkworm droppings (蚕矢), Reed’s roots (芦根), Loofa’s dried bundles (丝瓜络), fruits of Tetradium ruticarpum (吴茱萸). She then passed the list on to the man and said: “Boil it well and then serve when it’s cold.” [1]

The man was taken aback, then proceeded to nod his head and hurried out to gather the ingredients.

Jiang Yunsheng, to the side, let out a relieved sigh. But before he could raise a hand to wipe his sweat off, Yu Qingluo’s voice sounded beside his ear again: “Doctor Jiang, you burn some herbs to purify the air. There’s no need for me to teach you that, right?”

She didn’t know where these people had contracted the disease from, but cholera usually occurs in highly populated, humid places where the water isn’t clean. She doesn’t know whether the source of the disease is inside the Capital.

Yu Qingluo checked the patient’s condition once again and saw that man return accompanied by the medicine child. After giving the medicine to the two patients, their pulse turned much more stable and the vomit and diarrhoea stopped. So, she stood up and turned to the guard.

“You better take the carriage they rode in and burn it, and burn their clothes as well since it’s easy for them to get contaminated and spread the disease. If you really can’t burn them, then give them sunbaths after washing. The prescription I gave you just now, let them drink it again tomorrow.”

Doctor Jiang was a well-known physician in the Capital so he should know what to do next.

(TL: They have to do CDC’s job)

Sure enough, Jiang Yunsheng’d expression immediately became serious when he heard those words and immediately went outside to ask the guards about those people, outlining who or what they came in contact with or where’s the place that they might have been infected in. Then he brought over some herbs that could be used to disinfect the place after smoking it and went to every corner of the pharmacy to cleanse it against the pathogen.

The man had finally seen her skills and that his master’s situation seemed to be much better than before. Secretly delighted, he hurriedly brought his hands together in gratitude: “Miss, your saving grace won’t be forgotten, if you need my help at any moment then I shall do my best to oblige.”

Yu Qingluo saved two lives. But wasn’t his gratitude just a couple of words?

She pursed her lips and after a moment she shook her head to say: “I don’t need your assistance for the time being. So, how about you give me a token that I can use as ‘proof’ if I need help later?

The man was taken aback, a bit surprised by her response.

He thought that, when the woman shook her head, she meant that she needed nothing in return, that all she had done was a doctor’s duty and there was no need to give anything in return. But, unexpectedly…

The corner of lips twitched, and the man hurriedly brought out a golden token he kept on his body and said in a baritone: “Please, accept this, Miss. It is a promise from this humble one, whose surname is Qi and the given name is Zhan.” (TL: Qi Zhan)

Yu Qingluo saw that the token was beautiful, exquisite and delicately crafted and it also didn’t feel heavy when being carried around, so she was a little overjoyed by it. Nodding, she said in a straightforward tone: “Okay, oh. By the way, the consultation fee should also be discussed.”

Qi Zhan was petrified on the spot by her words. But what she said was reasonable and wasn’t in the least excessive, so he immediately took two silver tickets and gave them to her.

Yu Qingluo’s eyes curved in crescent moons as she smiled happily. After receiving the silver ticket and giving him further instructions on what to pay attention to, she and Jin Liuli left the room.

Qi Zhan was stunned for a moment and when he returned to himself just where had the figures who stepped outside had disappeared to?

“Qi… Qi Zhan.” While he was feeling annoyed by that sudden disappearance, a raspy and small voice came from the direction of the bed.

[1] I tried my best to bring out the names or types of ingredients she mentions. When I have the time I’ll bring pictures too, but you can all google :D. As for the procedures, I wasn’t sure if she meant to drink. But seeing that no other alternatives, it really fits, I at least believe that’s so.
