The Dishonest Son and The ‘Ghost’ Doctor Mother – Chapter 62

What an ass-kisser

In the next two days, their itinerary was pretty intense, rushing back through almost all evenings, nonstop.

Yu Qingluo was actually annoyed to death by those assassins who had come wave after wave to try to kill them and only wanted to get to the Capital immediately, meet Nannan as soon as possible and get far away from Ye Xiudu.

Shen Ying and the others did not dare complain. From that day onwards, when they saw her kill a person without a second thought, they were now very obedient to Yu Qingluo and Jin Liuli.

Fortunately, their journey proceeded without any other major hiccups, only a few minor annoyances here and there.

Jin Liuli and Mo Xian were probably the only ones aware that Ye Xiudu had secretly helped them dealt with many people.

Three days later, the carriage finally drove past the gates of the Capital.

Yu Qingluo closed her eyes, allowing Shen Ying to drive them into a large compound with high doors nonstop.

“Miss Yu, we arrived.”

Yu Qingluo leapt down from the carriage and gazed at the big house in front of her. This house seemed to be part of a separate courtyard in a remote location and there weren’t many people coming and going from the outer gate. This area was a bit remote from the Imperial City[1].

The gate of the residence was already open and a group of servants hurried out from inside. When they noticed her they were a bit stunned, but when they saw Shen Ying and the others nearby, they ran up to them eagerly, looking very respectful.

Yu Qingluo glanced at them and asked: “Where is my son?”

“Huh?” The housekeeper’s inquisitive gaze fell into Mo Xian, the latter let out a cough then answered in a small voice: “Where is the Lord?”

“The Lord… still hasn’t arrived.”

Mo Xian was startled: “He hasn’t arrived?” Could it be that they ended up falling behind them on the road?

However, it was also fine that the Lord wasn’t there yet, this way they have an excuse to keep Miss Yu around for longer.

Thinking along this line, Mo Xian hurriedly wore a flattering expression, running up to Yu Qingluo’s side and saying with a smile: “Miss Yu, the Lord might have been delayed in the road. He hasn’t arrived yet, so instead, shall we go inside and take a rest?”

When they reached the Capital, they were finally able to calm down and not be on the edge anymore. At least at the feet of the Emperor, those people wouldn’t dare act too brash.

Yu Qingluo’s brows knitted almost into a knot. She thought that as soon as she got here, she would take Nannan, receive those 15 million taels and be ready to leave. But how could she know that they would arrive earlier than the others and that there would be no one in sight?

She didn’t want to enter this place, always feeling that if she did, it would be difficult to leave again.

But looking back at Shen Ying, Liuli and the others bearing a tired semblance, she had a brief moment of hesitation before nodding her head to comply: “Ok, let’s go.”

Mo Xian and Wen Tian looked at each other and felt relieved. They were all aware of their Lord’s plan in their hearts, and also knew that making Yu Qingluo stay was a crucial point of the plan. Now that they had finally succeeded, they felt that the hardships they encountered along the way were not in vain.

It’s just that the Lord hasn’t arrived at the residence yet, so maybe something happened along the road and they didn’t know when they would arrive yet.

Ye Xiudu, at this moment, led Nannan to enter through the city’s gates.

As soon that they passed through, the little guy seemed to have gone crazy, totally different from his previous challenging-to-deal-with attitude that he kept throughout their last two days of rushing through the night. His whole person was shining like a divine being descending onto earth to bring blessings.

(TL: As soon as they passed through the gate the little guy seemed to have gone bananas ~ , yup. Much cuter)

Nannan was born in the Capital, but he had never lived in the Capital. In the first few years, Yu Qingluo took him to a place with a milder climate in the south to recover his health. When he finally became healthy, she took him around to other areas.

This place, he had never stepped in.

Therefore, when the little guy laid his eyes on this and those weird things he had never seen before, his eyes glowed brightly and Ye Xiudu couldn’t stop him.

“Uncle Ye, I heard Grandma Ge say that the fish in Linshui Tower is the best one around in the Capital. Let’s go and eat it right now, ok? I’m so hungry! I’m salivating, you see, see?!”  Nannan pointed at the corner of his mouth while looking at him pitifully.

Ye Xiudu shot a glance at him and couldn’t bear saying no. The little guy really hadn’t had a good meal nor a good night of sleep in the few last days because his mother had to continue her journey through the night, making him so tired and void of energy.

Seeing his eyes sparkling like stars, he felt that he wouldn’t be able to bear it if he didn’t comply with his request.

Hesitating for a bit, he nodded in agreement: “Ok, I’ll take you there.”

Nannan swallowed his saliva with a loud ‘gulp’ then grabbed Ye Xiudu’s hand and went directly towards the most prosperous and lively restaurant in the Capital – Linshui Tower.

When they arrived for lunch, the restaurant’s waiter saw that these people didn’t seem to be lavishly dressed and his expression became very lukewarm, his voice also dropped some degrees: “The restaurant is packed, I ask you to come another time.”

Already full? Nannan probingly looked towards the inside before replying in a very angry manner: “There are obviously 3 or 4 tables empty, just how is this place packed?”

That waiter couldn’t keep his face indifferent and, angrily staring at Nannan, he looked even more unwilling to let them inside: “Those tables have already been reserved by other guests. You are not from the Capital, right? Don’t you know that our place always has vacated seats and that many have been booked in advance?”

Nannan shook his head, honestly replying: “Don’t know.”

The waiter felt like vomiting blood, his expression became unsightly. He had already no patience left, so he waved both of them out directly: “Go, go, go. Quickly go! Stop bothering our business.”

Ye Xiudu looked at him coldly and moving his fingers slightly he made the building waiter drop to the ground on his knees with a ‘plop’, slamming his head down like he was kowtowing directly towards Nannan.

Nannan stared at his eyes and mouth wide open, surprised: “Please, please. I know you feel really sorry about this whole endeavour, but there’s no need to pay such huge respect, If you do, you are going to shorten my life.”

Ye Xiudu turned his head to the side and smirked. There were other people around who heard the childish words and couldn’t hold their laughs in.

But the restaurant’s waiter was both ashamed and annoyed by the situation, he raised his head and lifted a hand to slap the boy’s face: “Who’s sorry about it? You wild brat who came from God knows where…” His words stopped abruptly and his face changed completely, opening in a flattering smile as he ran over to a boy who had just got out of a carriage in front of the door of the restaurant.

Is this Wan gongzi? Have you come? Please enter, please. Come, be careful on the steps.

Nannan blinked and let out a mutter, surprised: “What an ass-kisser.”

That waiter suddenly staggered in his steps and almost planted into the ground.

But when Wan gongzi listened to those words, he felt quite proud of himself. Glancing at Nannan with his chin slightly raised, he asked the waiter next to him: “Is there still a vacant table?”

“Yes, yes, yes. Wan gongzi, you are a distinguished guest, the private room upstairs has long been reserved for you.”

“Hm, I want to entertain a few friends today. Quickly order some good wine and a few good dishes. The freshest you got, did you get it?”

That Wan gongzi seemed to be 12 or 13 years old. If one were to put it into modern age terms, he was still a boy who hadn’t grown out of his pants. But in front of the Linshui Tower, he was an exuberant member of an aristocratic family.

Nanna’s head was filled with question marks as he began to give this Wan gongzi in front of him a puzzled glance.

Ye Xiudu couldn’t help but laugh. Picking the boy from the ground he said in a low voice: “That Wan gongzi is the son of the Minister of Revenue, Mister Wan’s son.”
